Interesting mystery hone

Something a little different.
Here is a mystery hone from a friend.
There is a chance this is a US born stone. After a few emails, I've found 3 other examples. 2 in the US, 2 in the UK but all acquired in the US... interesting
My guess is it's a slate.Seems to have good abrasive power, yet still very fine. I've tested it and would say the shave the edge produces is similar to a coticule.

A similar stone pick up but a guy in at a stone near Kentucky Lake

7/8 in Horn

One finished up.
7/8's monkey tail with a slight Spanish point.
Horn scales, bone wedge and stacked washers.
I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out.
This one started as 5/8"x4"x1/4" pieces of 1095 steel. From there a hammered it into the rough shape. I cleaned up the line and hollows on the grinder and added the file work

I promise not to fill your inbox up with stuff.  I won't email much, but it will be mostly related to razors that are available or if I have a special steel to offer (so I can put your name a piece).

First knife

Well, most tend to think that before razor I made knives..... but the fact is I've never made a knife..lol...until now.
The design is pretty simple and she won't win a beauty contest but I'm happy with the way it came out.
Like most things I decide to try.. The first goes quick and I don't take the as much time as I should. With the first I'm more concerned about seeing if I can do it.
I except my next will be cleaner then my first...:)

My take on the Mappin Lancet

A while back I was contacted with a request to make a Mappin Lancet but change it up a little.
I thought it would be pretty cool! So even though it took longer then it should have and I donated a good bit of steel to the junk pile... her she is..
7/8, the frame is 01 tool steel and the blade is a low layer pattern welded steel.
The scales are ivory with silver pins. To keep thing looking somewhat old, I used a lead wedge.
Soon to be packed up and headed out.

8/8 Kami & 9/8 round point in Carbon Fiber

Here are a few I've finished recently
First is a 8/8 Kamisori with twisted handle

The next is a a 9/8 round point
Scales are carbon fiber with blue G10 liners and wedge

6/8 western grind fixed blade

Finished up and on it's way..
6/8 western grind fixed blade.
It's a long one. Over all length is over 7" and the cutting edge is close to 2.75"
I had to watch it a little, most of my non folders are around 2 + or - inches long.
So it was a little different with the extra length.
That being said, she works well :)
